Terms of use

In short: NonCopyrighted helps you find free music, photos, fonts and more, with the rules in plain words. The license of each maker decides what you may do. Always check it, keep the credit line, and do not copy our whole collection.

1. Who we are

2. What NonCopyrighted is

NonCopyrighted is a guide and a place where makers share their work. There are two kinds of listings:

  • Sources on other websites. We summarize their license and link to them. The license on the maker’s own site always applies. We check these sources regularly, but licenses can change without notice.
  • Work shared directly on NonCopyrighted. Makers upload it themselves under CC0 1.0 or CC BY 4.0. The license is shown next to every download.

3. Using what you download

  • Follow the license of each work. For CC BY 4.0, use the credit line we show.
  • Our labels (“Fully free”, “Credit required” and so on) are a summary to help you choose. They are not legal advice and not a guarantee.
  • A license covers the maker’s own rights. For people, brands or artworks in a photo or video, extra permission can be needed. Read The risks of free content.
  • Keep proof of where and when you downloaded something. We show the license on every download page for this reason.

4. What is not allowed on our site

  • Copying or scraping our collection, labels or texts in bulk, or rebuilding it as a competing library or dataset.
  • Automated mass downloading.
  • Uploading work that is not yours. See the maker terms.
  • Misusing the report form or harassing makers.

This does not limit what a Creative Commons license allows you to do with an individual work you downloaded.

5. Reporting a problem

Do you think something on NonCopyrighted infringes your rights or is otherwise illegal? Use our report form. We confirm receipt, look at every report and act quickly.

6. Liability

We do our best to keep everything correct, but NonCopyrighted is offered as it is, without guarantee. As far as the law allows, Tovation is not liable for damage caused by using the site, the labels or content from makers, for example a copyright claim, unless caused by our intent or gross negligence. Your mandatory rights as a consumer stay in place.

7. Law

Dutch law applies. Disputes go to the competent court in Rotterdam, unless the law gives you, as a consumer, the right to a court in your own country. See also our disclaimer and privacy policy.
